The plot device, for those of you who wondering but are afraid to ask, is the object or character who is only in the story to move the plot along. Plot devices are often cliché or badly used. Like the shoulder angel vs. demon to depict internal struggle, but there are many examples of plot devices that are used wonderfully.

I think the key to doing anything well is subtlety, and removing it if it doesn’t add to the story. That’s just my opinion though.
